The project

Timeline: February 2017 – December 2021

Over five years, LandCam will work with key stakeholders across Cameroon to improve customary and formal rights to land and natural resources through piloting land governance innovations at the local level and contributing to workable reforms of the relevant policy. We will create new spaces for more informed, effective and inclusive dialogue and analysis, engaging the public and media, as well as civil society platforms. And we will monitor changes on the ground, track legal reforms, and share lessons nationally and internationally.

Who are we?

CED, RELUFA and IIED are the organisations implementing the project, working closely with a wide range of partners in Cameroon and internationally.

CED, Cameroon
The Centre for Environment and Development (CED) is an independent organisation working to promote environmental justice and protect the rights, interests, culture and aspirations of local and indigenous communities in Central Africa.

RELUFA, Cameroon
The Réseau de lutte contre la faim (RELUFA, Network for the Fight Against Hunger) is a platform of civil society and grassroots community actors created in 2001, which aims to address systemic problems that lead to poverty, hunger and social, economic and environmental injustices in Cameroon.

IIED, United Kingdom
The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) promotes sustainable development by linking local priorities to global challenges. We support some of the world's most vulnerable populations to make their voices heard in decision-making.

ILC, Italy

The International Land Coalition (ILC) is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organisations working together to put people at the centre of land governance. The shared goal of ILC's over 200 members (which include CED and IIED) is to realise land governance for and with people at the country level, responding to the needs and protecting the rights of women, men and communities who live on and from the land.

NES, Cameroon

The National Engagement Strategy (NES) was set in motion by the ILC as a way to promote policy change and implementation at country level. It is led by a national civil society platform and fosters multi-stakeholder dialogue to promote land policy reform and implementation in Cameroon.

RECTRAD, Cameroon

The Réseau des chefs traditionnels pour la gestion durable des ecosystèmes en Afrique centrale (RECTRAD, Network of Traditional Leaders for the Sustainable Management of Ecosystems in Central Africa) was created in 2011. It aims to promote biodiversity conservation, sustainable and equitable management of natural resources and good local governance. RECTRAD works to ensure a constructive involvement of traditional leaders in the development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of sustainable development policies.

REPAR, Cameroon

The Network of Parliamentarians for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa (REPAR) aims to make parliamentarians an essential group of actors in the development, implementation and monitoring of national and international policies for the sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa.

About our funders

European Union

This project is funded through the European Union Programme to support responsible governance of land tenure by promoting the VGGT (Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security). The EU programme recognises that land governance issues are strongly linked to key challenges such as food scarcity, water shortages, or urban and population growth. By supporting the application of VGGT on the ground, it seeks to improve land governance in fifteen African countries to help food and nutrition security of family farmers and vulnerable communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
